What is a millibar to bar converter?

A millibar to bar converter is an online tool that turns a pressure value written in millibars (mbar) into its equivalent in bars (bar), and back again. Both units belong to the same metric family of pressure measurement, so the relationship between them is fixed and simple: the millibar is just one-thousandth of a bar. The millibar and the bar share a single, exact conversion factor:

  • 1 bar = 1000 millibars
  • 1 millibar = 0.001 bar

To go from millibars to bars, divide the value by 1000 (or, equivalently, multiply by 0.001). To go the other way, multiply the value in bars by 1000. Because the factor is an exact power of ten, no rounding error is introduced by the conversion itself — the only precision you lose is whatever you choose to truncate in the answer.

A tyre data sheet quotes 1 bar. Meteorologically minded readers can convert it to millibars:
