What is a weeks from today calculator?

A weeks from today calculator tells you the exact calendar date that falls a chosen number of weeks away from a start date. By default the start date is today, but you can set any date you like. You then pick a direction — counting forward to find a future date, or backward to find a past date.

Because one week is always exactly seven days, the tool simply moves the start date by seven days for every week you enter. It still handles the different lengths of months, the rollover from one month or year to the next, and leap years automatically, so the answer is always correct.

This is handy whenever a deadline or milestone is expressed in weeks: a 6-week recovery period, a 12-week training plan, a 2-week notice, or simply “what date is 8 weeks from now?”.

How does the calculator work?

You provide three things:

  1. A start date — the date you are counting from (today by default).
  2. A number of weeks — how many weeks to move.
  3. A directionWeeks from date (forward in time) or Weeks before date (backward in time).

The calculator converts the number of weeks into days (one week = 7 days) and shifts the start date by that amount in the selected direction. Because it works on the real calendar, the result correctly crosses month and year boundaries and respects leap years.

Formula

If we let D0D_0 be the start date and ww be the number of weeks, the result DD is:

D=D0+7w(counting forward)D = D_0 + 7w \quad \text{(counting forward)} D=D07w(counting backward)D = D_0 - 7w \quad \text{(counting backward)}

Here:

  • D0D_0 = the start date
  • ww = the number of weeks
  • DD = the resulting date

Each week adds (or subtracts) exactly seven days, so the month and year update automatically as the count crosses their boundaries.

Examples

Example 1: 4 weeks from a date

Start on 2025-01-01 and count 4 weeks forward.

D=2025-01-01+7×4=2025-01-29D = 2025\text{-}01\text{-}01 + 7 \times 4 = 2025\text{-}01\text{-}29

Four weeks is 28 days, so the result lands on January 29, 2025.

Example 2: 52 weeks from a date

Start on 2025-01-01 and count 52 weeks forward.

D=2025-01-01+7×52=2025-12-31D = 2025\text{-}01\text{-}01 + 7 \times 52 = 2025\text{-}12\text{-}31

52 weeks is 364 days — one day short of a full 365-day year — so the result is December 31, 2025.

Example 3: 2 weeks before a date

Start on 2025-01-15 and count 2 weeks backward.

D=2025-01-157×2=2025-01-01D = 2025\text{-}01\text{-}15 - 7 \times 2 = 2025\text{-}01\text{-}01

Two weeks is 14 days, so subtracting them from the 15th gives January 1, 2025.

Practical uses

  • Recovery and treatment timelines — find the end of a 6-week or 8-week recovery period.
  • Training and study plans — work out the finish date of a 12-week program from its start.
  • Notice periods — set the last day of a 2-week or 4-week notice.
  • Project planning — schedule a milestone a fixed number of weeks from a kickoff date.

FAQs

How many days are in the number of weeks I enter?

Exactly seven days per week. The calculator multiplies the number of weeks by 7 and shifts the start date by that many days.

Does the calculator handle leap years?

Yes. It counts along the real calendar, so a leap day (February 29) is included whenever the span crosses one.

Can I count backward in time?

Yes. Choose Weeks before date and the number of weeks is subtracted from the start date, moving the result earlier — across month and year boundaries when needed.

What date does it count from by default?

By default the start date is today, so you can immediately answer “what date is N weeks from today?”. You can change the start date to count from any other day.
